Proxxon 34002 Metal Turning Precision Lathe for Hobbyists
The mini-lathe machine is designed for a wide range of machining tasks, including face, longitudinal, and taper turning, as well as thread-cutting. It can handle a variety of materials, such as steel, brass, aluminum, and plastic. The machine is equipped with a mounting flange for fastening the mill/drill head PF 230, with a centre distance of 250mm (10") and a swing of 70mm (2 3/4"). The height over the cross slide is 43mm (1 11/16").
The machine bed is constructed of cast iron, featuring a wide-legged prismatic guide, which ensures vibration-free work even under high loads. The rear flange allows for the mounting of the mill/drill head PF 230. The lead spindle is covered, providing a clean and efficient working environment.
The headstock is made of die-cast aluminum, with a precision-bearing-mounted main spindle. The spindle has a run-out of less than 1/100mm (0.0004") without a chuck and a 10.5mm (13/32") opening. The chuck side is hollowed to 14mm (0.56") and features an MK 2 bore. A rotary switch allows for engaging the automatic feed via the lead and feed spindle, with options of 0.05 or 0.1mm/rev. (2/100" or 4/1000").
The tailstock is also made of die-cast aluminum, with a sleeve diameter of 20mm (3/4") that can be retracted up to 30mm. It includes a millimeter scale, an MK 1 bore, and a live center.
The support system consists of a bed carriage made of die-cast zinc, with a cross slide and top slide made of steel. The turning tool post can accommodate cutting tools up to 8 x 8mm (5/16" x 5/16") in size.
The drive system features a quiet DC special motor with a 3-stage belt drive, providing speeds ranging from 300 to 900 and 3,000rpm. An additional speed control (full-wave electronics) allows for continuously adjustable speeds from 100 to 300 or 1,000rpm, depending on the belt ratio. The machine offers both clockwise and anticlockwise rotation.
The main switch includes an emergency stop function and restart protection, ensuring safe operation. The high-quality 3-jaw chuck, as per DIN 8386 Class 1, has a concentricity tolerance of 0.04mm (0.002") and can handle workpieces from 2 to 75mm (5/64" to 3") in diameter when using the reversing jaws. The lathe chuck is equipped with a safety guard.
The handwheels are made of aluminum and feature an adjustable scale ring, with 1 division representing 0.05mm (.002") and 1 revolution equaling 1mm (3/64"). The thread-cutting device includes change gears for left-hand and right-hand threads in the most common metric pitches (0.5 - 0.625 - 0.7 - 0.75 - 0.8 - 1 - 1.25 - 1.5mm).
The machine operates on 110 - 120V, 50/60Hz power, with dimensions of L 56mm (22"), W 270mm (10 3/4"), and H 170mm (6 5/8"). The approximate weight is 12kg. The mini-lathe is designed to be quiet, precise, and vibration-free, ensuring fatigue-free use without compromising performance, even with its low weight and slim design.
